Model WECO In-Line – Flame Arresters

Safety · Flame Arresters

Manufacturer:

Flame arresters (also referred to as flame suppressors) are passive devices that prevent the propagation of a flame or fire through an opening in a pipeline or vessel discharging flammable vapor. The flame arrester element is designed to have a surface area three to four times greater than that of the pipeline in which it is installed and is mounted between two flanged reducing spools. The element consists of one or more tightly wound spirals of corrugated stainless steel ribbon forming the passages through which the vapor flows. The area of each passage determines the level of protection provided by the element. The Storagetech in-line deflagration flame arrester with Weco connection provides maximum safety with its new connection type and a Maximum Experimental Safe Gap (MESG) according to the standard, and is suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA. Under normal operating conditions, the flame arrester element allows bidirectional flow of air and flammable vapor; however, it introduces an additional pressure drop that must be considered in system design. If a fire or ignition occurs outside the equipment and the flammable discharge ignites, the flame arrester will extinguish the primary flame by absorbing and dissipating heat as it passes through the element.
